This group is focused on building a strong foundation for learning to read through play and explicit teaching. The skills learned here will enhance your child’s ability to recognize and manipulate the spoken parts of sentences and words (rhyming, segmenting, blending). Learning these skills have been found to play a crucial role in a child’s ability to read later on. We will also spend time listening to stories and learning to interact with books in a meaningful way by asking questions, making predictions, and thinking about the parts of the story.
